The energy transition has entered a new phase. It is no longer just a matter of accelerating the deployment of renewable energy, but of building a new energy system in which renewables serve as a cornerstone. This system will be more decentralized, combining energy, with an expanded role for local communities, industry, and citizens, and a central focus on flexibility, storage, and smart grids. With four months to go before the first round of the presidential election, this roundtable brings together the presidents of the leading federations in the renewable energy sector. They will compare their visions, identify priorities, and outline the conditions necessary for a decarbonized, sovereign, competitive, and resilient energy system. HUMAN, RENEWABLE ENERGIES, ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: TOWARDS A NEW VIRTUOUS CIRCLE?

France is going through a paradoxical phase: a temporary situation of electricity overproduction is coexisting with profound changes in the energy sector. New models for valuing the electron are emerging, even as the State is partially withdrawing and the ecosystem is being reshaped. In this uncertain context, renewable energy (RE) projects are becoming more complex, business models are evolving, and social tensions are intensifying. At the same time, the rise of artificial intelligence and, in the longer term, quantum computing is opening up unprecedented prospects. While these technologies promise significant productivity gains, they also fundamentally question professions, skills, and organizations. What will the job of a renewable energy engineer look like tomorrow? How can we support the human transformations brought about by these changes? At the same time, these technologies are extremely energy-intensive: electricity demand linked to data centers is constantly growing. This dynamic could, in the medium term, strongly revive the need for new production capacities. How can we anticipate this evolution? How can we intelligently plan the energy infrastructure of tomorrow? Finally, the climate issue is central. The environmental footprint of AI calls for a rethinking of energy models: can we imagine short supply chains between energy production, data centers, and digital uses? The TECSOL conference proposes to explore a key question: under what conditions can AI and renewable energies become part of a truly virtuous circle—serving both the energy transition and humanity?

Long considered merely a supplementary technology, battery storage is now poised to become a cornerstone of the electric power system. Generating carbon-free electricity is no longer enough: we must also be able to store it and release it at the right time. Yet the deployment of batteries is not yet keeping pace with demand. Is France heading in the right direction? Does our deployment pace meet the targets set by the PPE? What business model will help accelerate investment? Are market signals enough, or is stronger public support needed? Batteries, hydrogen, pumped-storage hydroelectricity, thermal storage: what combination of technologies will meet the needs of tomorrow’s electricity system?
