WIND POWER: WHAT'S THE BEST APPROACH TO ACCELERATE REPOWERING?
Laurie GILBERTNicolas VRECOURTFrédéric MADECDelphine BASSOUFranck TURLANT
Description
As the PPE 3 makes repowering a major focus of onshore wind energy development, France is entering a new phase in its wind energy history. More than 11.8 GW of aging capacity has been identified by the government, and more than 8,000 wind turbines could be subject to repowering by 2040.
Generating more renewable electricity at existing sites, limiting land development, and modernizing facilities: the potential is vast. But what conditions must be met to truly scale up this effort? Regulatory changes, business models, industrial capacity, equipment recycling, local acceptance, and value sharing: which levers should be activated to make repowering a driving force behind the energy transition and France’s energy sovereignty?
